Imagine you have a map. On this map is a detailed diagram of the human body, as well as hundreds of ways to break it down. As you read the map, you begin to realize that you should have known half of these things, as the details seem just a step away from common sense. You realize that this map is just as complex as it is simple. Also, as you read, you learn that this map is magic, giving almost anyone who studies it the same powers to control his/her opponent as the next guy. This map is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
My name's Ric Torres, lover and dedicated student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu here in central Austin, TX. Although I mainly cater to the Hyde Park, Windsor Park, and Meuller areas, some of my students come from as far as Elgin. I won't claim to be the best there is out there. But, I can promise that I teach with the same passion and attention to detail that has kept me in love with the "magic" of the art.
This young lady, Lauren Dell, is not a student of Exigo (though I wish). I just thought this was a prime example of how technique prevails over size, when you know what you’re doing and are determined. It’s important to know that young Dell has more than skill. She has the warrior’s spirit to go along with it.
Nothing makes me prouder than to see the progress of my students - especially the young ones. In this school demo, Max & Luke were outstanding.
With very little instruction, so as to keep it real, I put on the gloves in order to demonstrate what these boys could do in a real-world situation. These two did not put themselves in danger by hesitation, and they enforced their will to stop my attacks. Little details are important (tucking in the elbow during the gravity sweep, keeping one’s head close & safe, staying heavy, controlling my head and elbows, etc.), and most of them were heeded during this high-intensity demonstration. In spite of the reality of slight human errors, Luke & Max demonstrated the effectiveness of Jiu Jitsu, and used their knowledge to adapt to each situation, and “resolve” the matter.
